What is Hypnosis? What is the difference between Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy? Hypnosis is a natural but altered state of the mind. The mind is in a state of very focused awareness, with the body being quite relaxed, and the mind is open to suggestions. This trance-like state is something that we actually we go in and out of numerour time on a daily basis. The two most common times we are in this state are upon awakening and right before drifting off to sleep; however, there are other times we also experience this. Have you ever been so absorbed in a movie or book that emotions arise and you lose track of time? Have you even driven your usual route to work or home and don't recall the actual drive itself or think, "How did I get here?" In a trance state, time is distorted and your subsncious mind takes over. The word hypnosis refers to the inducing of a passive state of mind, or trance, that promotes better communication between the conscious and the subconscious mind. Hypnotherapy is the psychological healing process that uses hypnosis to achieve a desired result.
